11th Update Course in Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery for operating room nurses

As in previous years, the Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Nursing Association AEETO (Asociación Española de Enfermería en Traumatología y Ortopedia) has organised the 11^th Update Course for scrub nurses in Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery. It will be from 21^st to 23^rd of October 2015 in Clínica Cemtro.

The technology in the Operating Room of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery changes and advances quickly. This requires updating in theorical and practical knowledge.

Even nursing staff with extensive experience in the surgical area of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery, need to update their knowledge and skills.

This course seeks to present techniques, implants and skills that are increasingly being imposed in our operating rooms.  This course covers the high demand for training in Operating Room Nursing.

During this course the participants will be able to learn about:

•        Kyphoplasty
•        Limb replantation
•       Custom prosthesis (hip and knee)
•    Chondrocyte culture
•        Knee prosthesis with navigator

The Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Nursing Association AEETO looks to update knowledge among professionals with its continuing education program.

1^st Workday of Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Nursing Association (AEETO) 

during the 51^st  SECOT Congress

The Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgeon Society (SECOT) has invited the Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Nursing Association (AEETO) to organize some activities during the Congress of this year.

The workday will have two parts. Several lectures about “Nursing Innovation in Traumatology and Orthopaedics” will be in the morning:

•  “Empowerment: Advanced practical. Experience in a Orthopeadic Ward”
• “Education to the Nursing Competence in a security environment: Clinic Simulation”
•  “Nursing Education in the Traumatology Combat Care”
• “Basis and experience in online consultation care and telephone consultation care”

After these topics, there will be a time of free communications, where our colleagues will share their experiences with us.

In the afternoon, the activities will be more practical. There will be several practical seminars:

•  Continuity of Care: Hospital discharge report
•  Ethics: the deliberation
•  Reflexology
• Taping versus kinesio taping.
•  Kyphoplasty
•  Periprosthetic fractures

Elena Miguel Poza as President of the Spanish Traumatology and Orthopaedic Nursing Association will introduce the Association, explaining all activities of the association during the year and will display the Nursing Competences in Traumatology and Orthopeadics with all participants.

The innovation and technological advances in the field of health, have meant that professionals in Nursing have had to make a constant effort, efficiently managing their knowledge to improve Care, Nursing Product and to answer the health needs of the population.

All these coincide with the change of model of undergraduate education, to allow us to enter the European Higher Education Area, according to Bologna resolutions.

But there is a fault of adaptation between professional generalist nursing competences and the occupation in a specific field like Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

Elena Miguel is convinced that nursing speciality in the Traumatology and Orthopaedics area of knowledge needs to acquire a group of specific competences that guarantee a best practise in the attendance job.

What is a Competence? It is the combination of necessary knowledge, skills and attitude for successful occupation of a role or a certain job.

What is the profile of Competences?

§  Tool to search and evaluate the information.

The word “Competence” began to develop into the professional organizations at the end of 20^th century, seen as a “new” tool of strategic leadership in the business world. After leading by results, managers who wanted to have good results had to think of the human factor and they began to give importance to the persons who make up their organization. The new age is known as “leadership by values”. Companies know their big potentials are the people of their organization. For that, employers must involve themselves with philosophy, view, mission and values of their institution.

It is necessary the Identification of Professional Competences of Nursing in Traumatology and Orthopaedics.
